Is the KC Attractions Pass worth it?

Updated August 2026 · Prices verified
Verdict

Worth it for families doing multiple museums over a weekend; a tough sell for solo travelers or couples

The KC Attractions Pass rewards a specific visitor profile: families spending 2–3 days in Kansas City who plan to hit Wonderscope, the WWI Museum, and one or two of the 18th & Vine museums. For that itinerary the math works and the single-purchase convenience is genuine. For solo travelers or couples doing one or two paid attractions, the 1-day pass in particular is very difficult to justify — the WWI Museum is the only high-value anchor, and it alone doesn’t cover the $30 entry price with meaningful savings. The exclusion of the Zoo and SEA LIFE is a real gap.

Kansas City doesn't have a CityPASS or a Go City pass. What it has is the KC Attractions Pass — a Bandwango-built day pass that bundles up to nine sites under a single purchase for $30 (1 day) or $44 (3 days). If you've arrived here looking for information on one of those major national programs, the short answer is they don't operate here. This page covers the only city-wide pass Kansas City actually has.

The pass is a legitimate product with a genuine but narrow use case. Understanding where it works — and where it doesn't — requires looking past the "20% or more savings" headline and into the specific attractions it covers, the ones it doesn't, and some geography that the GYG listing glosses over.

What the pass covers

The KC Attractions Pass is a day-based pass: you pay a flat price and get unlimited admission to all participating attractions within a 24-hour or 72-hour window from the moment you redeem your first stop. There are no credit limits and no per-attraction choices — every listed site is included.

The GYG listing headline says "ten of the area's dynamic destinations" while the highlights say "up to 9 KC attractions" — that discrepancy is Pinstripes, a bowling and bocce venue where the pass gets you $10 off a $40 food and beverage purchase. That is not free admission to anything. The nine actual admission inclusions are: National WWI Museum and Memorial, American Jazz Museum, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, National Museum of Toys and Miniatures, Regnier Family Wonderscope Children's Museum, Jesse James Birthplace, Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, Shawnee Town 1929 Museum, and Vaile Mansion. Pinstripes shouldn't factor into your savings calculation.

The anchor attraction in terms of individual ticket price is the National WWI Museum and Memorial at $19.50 for general admission. That single site covers 65% of the 1-day pass price on its own, which tells you how much work the other inclusions need to do to justify the purchase.

What's NOT included

These are popular Kansas City attractions the pass does not cover. If your itinerary leans on any of these, individual tickets will likely work out cheaper.

  • Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (free — no pass needed)
  • Kansas City Zoo (390 monthly searches — not on pass)
  • SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium (~$21 individually)
  • LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City (~$24 individually)
  • Union Station / Science City (~$14 individually)
  • National Frontier Trails Museum, Independence
  • Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (free)

The geography problem

Of the nine listed attractions, only five are within a practical Kansas City visit radius. The other four require a car and a deliberate side trip: Jesse James Birthplace is 30 miles north in Kearney, MO; Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop is 22 miles southwest in Olathe, KS; Vaile Mansion is 12 miles east in Independence, MO; Shawnee Town 1929 is 18 miles southwest in Shawnee, KS.

None of those outer-ring sites are attractions most Kansas City visitors come to town to see. They're regional day-trip destinations for locals. Jesse James Birthplace in particular is a 30-mile drive each way for an $8.50 admission to a site where you cannot actually enter the cabin — only view it through screen doors. As a fixed-schedule day pass, visiting it requires burning several hours of your 24- or 72-hour window on transit.

Build your KC itinerary around the five in-city inclusions. The outer-ring sites are bonus options for visitors who specifically want them, not a meaningful contribution to the pass value case.

What isn't on it — and what's free

The KC Attractions Pass's most significant omission is the Kansas City Zoo, which generates more search traffic for "Kansas City pass" than any other attraction. The Zoo operates its own day tickets and annual memberships separately. If it's on your list, budget for it independently — it isn't going to show up on this pass.

SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium (~$21 individually) and LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City (~$24 individually) are also absent, which matters particularly for families — these are the attractions that drive family visit planning, and neither is covered.

On the free side, Kansas City has a meaningful set of no-cost anchors. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is one of the strongest art collections in the Midwest and charges nothing for general admission. The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is also free. Visitors who center their itinerary around free cultural institutions and one or two paid museums can structure a genuinely strong KC trip without a pass touching their budget at all.

Does it save money?

The 3-day pass at $44 works for the right itinerary. A family hitting the WWI Museum, Wonderscope, and both 18th & Vine museums would pay $60.50 buying individually — the pass saves $16.50 and removes the per-attraction payment friction across two or three days. That's the case it's built for.

The 1-day pass at $30 is narrower. The WWI Museum alone is $19.50, so you need at least two more stops to clear the price — doable, but it makes for a packed day. Use the calculator above to check your specific list.

Who should buy it — and who shouldn't

The pass earns its price for families spending a full weekend in Kansas City and planning to visit Wonderscope alongside two or more of the 18th & Vine museums and the WWI Museum. History-focused travelers who want the WWI Museum, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and American Jazz Museum in a single day can also make the 1-day pass work, though the margin is thin.

Skip it if the Zoo, SEA LIFE, or LEGOLAND is central to your trip — none of them are included. Skip it if you're visiting as a couple or solo traveler doing one or two paid attractions; the individual ticket prices here are modest enough that the pass overhead doesn't pay off at that volume. Skip it if your KC itinerary leans toward free institutions: the Nelson-Atkins and Kemper cost nothing, and a day built around those plus one paid museum doesn't need a pass.

Is there a CityPASS or Go City pass for Kansas City?

No. Neither CityPASS nor Go City operates in Kansas City. The only city-wide attraction pass available is the KC Attractions Pass, sold by Bandwango via GetYourGuide and the Bandwango website. It covers up to nine sites at a flat day rate.

Does the KC Attractions Pass include the Kansas City Zoo?

No, and this is the most common expectation mismatch. The Kansas City Zoo is not included in the KC Attractions Pass. The Zoo operates its own annual membership and day ticket sales separately. If the Zoo is on your itinerary, budget for it independently — adult day tickets run around $25.

Does the pass cover the full WWI Museum experience?

The pass covers General Admission to the National WWI Museum and Memorial ($19.50 individually), which includes the Main Gallery and all permanent galleries. It does not include the Liberty Memorial Tower ($6) or the Featured Exhibition ($10). If you want the full combo, those are paid separately even with the pass.

Can adults visit Wonderscope without children?

No. Wonderscope is a children's museum and does not admit adults who are not accompanying a child. If you're visiting Kansas City as a couple or solo, the Wonderscope inclusion on the KC Attractions Pass is of no use to you.

Are all the attractions actually in Kansas City?

No — several inclusions are well outside the city. Jesse James Birthplace is 30 miles north in Kearney, MO. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop is 22 miles southwest in Olathe, KS. Vaile Mansion is 12 miles east in Independence, MO. Shawnee Town 1929 is 18 miles southwest in Shawnee, KS. A practical Kansas City itinerary should be built around the five in-city inclusions: the WWI Museum, Toys and Miniatures Museum, Wonderscope, American Jazz Museum, and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

What is the refund policy on the KC Attractions Pass?

The GYG listing offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before first use. The pass clock starts when you redeem your first attraction — a 1-day pass gives you 24 hours from that moment, and a 3-day pass gives you 72 hours. Plan your first redemption accordingly.

Is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art on the pass?

No, but it doesn't need to be — the Nelson-Atkins is free. It's one of the best art museums in the Midwest and charges no general admission. Visit it outside the pass. The same applies to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, also free.

Before you buy — things to know

  • The Zoo is not on the pass. Kansas City Zoo is the most-searched pass attraction for KC — if that’s on your list, this pass doesn’t help.
  • Four of the nine inclusions are 12–30 miles outside downtown Kansas City. Plan around in-city attractions unless you have a car and a specific interest in the outer-ring sites.
  • Pinstripes is a $10 food/beverage discount, not free admission. It shouldn’t factor into your savings calculation.
  • The WWI Museum pass admission covers General Admission only — the Tower ($6) and Featured Exhibition ($10) cost extra regardless of whether you hold a pass. Verify this before visiting.
  • Wonderscope admits adults only when accompanied by a child. Solo adults and couples without children cannot use this inclusion.
  • The 1-day pass activates a 24-hour clock from first use, not from open of business. Redeeming it at 2 p.m. means it expires at 2 p.m. the following day, which is not useful for a multi-stop day.
