Is the Go City Gothenburg Pass worth it?
Worth it — but only if you pick the right three
At SEK 449 for 3 credits from a pool of 7, the Essentials Pass has a break-even threshold of SEK 150 per attraction. Two of the seven options (Museum of Gothenburg and Maritime Museum and Aquarium, both SEK 75) fall below it. Pick Universeum (SEK 285), Prison Island (SEK 285), and the Paddan Canal Tour (SEK 269) and you save SEK 390 — a straightforward case. Pick either museum in your three and the pass doesn't save you money. The pool is small enough that this is a binary decision, not a nuanced one. All prices on this page are in Swedish kronor (SEK).

Two passes, one decision
Gothenburg has two Go City passes and they work differently. The Essentials Pass is credit-based — pick any three attractions from a pool of seven and use them within 30 days of your first visit. The All-Inclusive is a day pass — buy one to five consecutive days and visit as many of the 22 included attractions as you can fit into each one.
Which one makes sense depends almost entirely on whether you plan to include an archipelago boat excursion. Those tours are All-Inclusive exclusives and expensive enough individually that they make the upgrade automatic for anyone who wants one. Without that, the Essentials handles most Gothenburg trips cleanly — as long as you're picking from the right end of the attraction list.
One thing both passes share: neither includes Liseberg. Gothenburg's amusement park is the city's most-visited attraction — and it's not here. If Liseberg is the main reason you're visiting, that changes the conversation before anything else.
Calculator: what do you save?
The Essentials tab lets you pick your three attractions and shows the exact saving against individual gate prices. The All-Inclusive tab uses Go City's published sample itinerary figures by day count.

What's NOT included
These are popular Gothenburg attractions no pass tier covers. If your itinerary leans on any of these, individual tickets will likely work out cheaper.
- Liseberg Amusement Park — Gothenburg's most visited attraction and not on either pass. If Liseberg is on your itinerary, budget for it separately; entry starts at around SEK 215 per adult (park entry only, ride access extra).
- Universeum special exhibitions — base entry is included, but any temporary ticketed exhibitions carry a separate surcharge.
- Public transport (Västtrafik) — neither pass includes the city's tram or bus network. The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and boat tours partially substitute for sightseeing purposes, but for general city travel you'll need a separate travel card.
- Gothenburg archipelago by public ferry — the Archipelago Tour is All-Inclusive only; public Styrsö line ferries to the outer islands are not included.
- Universeum restaurant and in-venue food and drink.
Essentials Pass: when it wins
The Essentials pool is small — seven attractions — which means the credit selection decision matters more here than in most cities. The good news is that the right three picks are obvious: Universeum, Prison Island, and the Paddan City Canal Tour are all priced well above what a single credit costs you, and together they represent the strongest saving the pass offers. The calculator above shows the exact figure for any combination.
The practical case for the Essentials is the 30-day activation window. You can use one credit on arrival, one mid-trip, and the last on your final day — no pressure to cram everything into consecutive mornings. For a typical two-to-four night Gothenburg trip, this structure fits naturally.
The one trap worth naming: two of the seven Essentials attractions — the Museum of Gothenburg and the Maritime Museum and Aquarium — each cost less to buy at the door than a single credit is worth. Both are good museums, but if they're on your list, buy them separately. Using an Essentials credit on either guarantees the pass doesn't save you money.
All-Inclusive Pass: when it wins
The clearest reason to choose the All-Inclusive over the Essentials is the archipelago excursions. The Archipelago Tour with Guide and the Boat Excursion around Hisingen Island are both All-Inclusive exclusives — and both cost more individually than a 1-day pass. If either is on your itinerary, the upgrade decision makes itself.
Beyond that, the All-Inclusive suits visitors who want density — multiple attractions per day across consecutive days. Gothenburg's compact layout helps: Universeum, the Paddan Canal Tour, Maritiman, and the harbour waterfront all sit within easy reach of each other, which makes a full day of sightseeing here less logistically taxing than in a more spread-out city. The calculator above shows Go City's published sample savings for each day count.
One structural oddity worth knowing: there is no 4-day pass. The options jump from 3 days to 5. If you're planning four full sightseeing days, take the 5-day — the price difference is small and it gives you a buffer for a slow start or unpredictable weather.
The Liseberg problem
Liseberg draws around three million visitors a year — it's not a niche Gothenburg attraction, it's one of the best amusement parks in Scandinavia and the dominant reason many families visit the city. It is not included on either Go City pass.
If Liseberg is the centrepiece of your Gothenburg trip, the pass calculation shifts significantly. Park entry starts at around SEK 215 per adult (ride access is an additional charge). That's a material spend that sits entirely outside the pass, and it changes what other paid attractions you'll fit around it. Budget for Liseberg separately and treat the pass as covering the rest of your itinerary — Universeum and the canal tour, principally — rather than as an all-in solution.
Families with children in particular should check Liseberg's current pricing and season dates before making pass decisions. The park operates extended seasons in summer and a popular Christmas market in winter; both periods bring high visitor volumes that can affect availability and pricing at pass attractions too.
Which attractions are worth a credit?
Go City's listing treats all attractions with equal visual weight. They aren't equal. On the Essentials, the credit value comes entirely from how expensive an attraction is to buy at the door — use your credits on the priciest options first, and the pass saves real money. Use them on the cheapest, and it doesn't.
Lead with these on the Essentials: Universeum and Prison Island are the two most expensive attractions in the pool, and the Paddan City Canal Tour sits just below them. Those three together represent the best-case Essentials itinerary — and they're also genuinely among the best things to do in Gothenburg, which helps. If Prison Island doesn't work for your group, Maritiman or the Museum of World Culture are reasonable third picks, though both reduce the saving compared to the top three.
All-Inclusive exclusives worth anchoring a day around: The Archipelago Tour is the highest-priced attraction on the entire list — a half-day guided boat trip into the southern archipelago. The Hisingen Island boat excursion and the Paddan Scenic Canal Tour on the Säveån river aren't far behind. Any of these three makes a strong anchor for an All-Inclusive day, and each one individually covers enough ground to justify the day-pass upgrade on its own.
Low-value on the Essentials, fine on All-Inclusive: The Museum of Gothenburg, Maritime Museum and Aquarium, Röda Sten Art Gallery, and the Sports Museum are all worth visiting in their own right — but each costs less to buy at the door than a single Essentials credit is worth. On an All-Inclusive day they slot in naturally after the main anchors. As credit picks, they cost you money rather than save it.
Who should buy which pass
Buy the Essentials Pass if you have three clear attractions in mind and want to spread them across your trip without daily pressure. Pick Universeum, Prison Island, and the canal tour, and the saving is significant — the 30-day activation window means you can use the credits whenever they fit, not just on back-to-back mornings.
Buy the All-Inclusive Pass if your itinerary includes an archipelago excursion — those boat tours are All-Inclusive exclusives and expensive enough individually to make the upgrade automatic. Also the right choice if you plan two or more full sightseeing days: Gothenburg's compact layout makes it realistic to fit several attractions into a single calendar day without rushing.
Skip the pass entirely if Liseberg is your main reason for visiting. The park isn't on either pass, and if it's filling most of a day you may only be adding one or two other paid attractions around it — in which case individual tickets will likely work out cheaper.
Travelling with children? Universeum is the standout pick — the rainforest zone and aquarium are genuinely good for kids of most ages. Prison Island suits older children well (it's an escape-room style experience). One thing to note: Junibacken, the Astrid Lindgren storybook museum that many families with young children specifically seek out, is a Stockholm attraction. It isn't in Gothenburg.
Booking gotchas
Prison Island requires advance booking. It's one of the two best Essentials credits at SEK 285 but sells out on peak days. Reserve a slot through the Go City app before you arrive — don't assume walk-up availability on summer weekends.
The Hop-On Hop-Off Boat is listed as seasonal and was closed at time of verification (September 2026), with availability resuming in July. Confirm current operating status before factoring it into an All-Inclusive decision for autumn or winter visits.
Don't book both Paddan canal tour variants. The Paddan City Canal Tour (Essentials-eligible, SEK 269) and the Paddan Scenic Canal Tour on the Säveån river (All-Inclusive only, SEK 385) are different routes but both are Paddan products. One per visit is enough.
There is no 4-day All-Inclusive option. If you're planning four sightseeing days, the 5-day pass at SEK 849 is the only choice with a buffer — it costs SEK 100 more than the 3-day, not a dramatic step.
The All-Inclusive runs on calendar days, not 24-hour periods. Activating in the afternoon means your first day ends at midnight that night. Start at the earliest attraction opening time on each All-Inclusive day.
Both passes are refundable within 90 days of purchase, provided they have not been activated. Once you scan at your first attraction, the pass is non-refundable.
Is Liseberg included in the Gothenburg city pass?
No — Liseberg Amusement Park is not included on either the Essentials or All-Inclusive pass. It's Gothenburg's most-visited attraction and draws a significant share of tourists to the city, but Go City doesn't cover it. Liseberg tickets start at around SEK 215 per adult for park entry (rides are separate). Budget for it independently if it's on your itinerary.
Which Gothenburg pass is better for a 2-day trip?
For two full sightseeing days, the 2-day All-Inclusive at SEK 649 is the stronger choice if you plan to include a boat excursion — the Archipelago Tour (SEK 430) and Hisingen Island tour (SEK 370) are All-Inclusive exclusives and individually cost more than a 1-day pass. If your two days are more relaxed — three or four attractions total spread across the trip — the Essentials Pass at SEK 449 is cheaper and carries no daily pressure.
Does the Gothenburg pass include public transport?
Neither pass includes Västtrafik's tram or bus network. The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and several boat tours cover the main sightseeing areas, but for general city travel you'll need a separate Västtrafik travel card. Gothenburg's tram network is one of the best ways to navigate the city — a 24-hour or 72-hour travel card is worth buying alongside the pass.
Is the Essentials Pass worth it in Gothenburg?
Yes, if you pick Universeum (SEK 285), Prison Island (SEK 285), and the Paddan Canal Tour (SEK 269). That combination saves SEK 390 against individual gate prices. The pass fails you only if you use a credit on the Museum of Gothenburg or Maritime Museum and Aquarium — both cost SEK 75 individually, which is half the break-even threshold per credit.
Does the Go City Gothenburg pass include the archipelago tours?
The Archipelago Tour with Guide (SEK 430) and the Boat Excursion around Hisingen Island (SEK 370) are both included on the All-Inclusive Pass. Neither is available on the Essentials Pass. These are the two strongest arguments for upgrading to All-Inclusive — both are priced individually at more than a 1-day pass.
What is the refund policy for the Gothenburg pass?
Both passes offer free cancellation within 90 days of purchase, provided the pass has not been activated. Once you scan your first attraction, the pass is active and non-refundable. The 90-day window is one of the more generous in the Go City network.
Can I visit Universeum with the Gothenburg pass?
Yes — Universeum is available on both the Essentials and All-Inclusive pass. At SEK 285 individually it's the strongest single credit on the Essentials Pass, tied with Prison Island. It's also one of the city's best attractions outright — the rainforest zone and aquarium make it a half-day visit minimum.

Before you buy — things to know
- The Essentials pool has only 7 attractions — and two of them (Museum of Gothenburg and Maritime Museum and Aquarium) cost SEK 75 individually, half the pass's break-even threshold. Pick either of these and you've guaranteed the pass doesn't save money. The pool is small enough that attraction selection is the whole game.
- Prison Island requires advance booking. It's one of the two best Essentials credits (SEK 285) but can sell out on peak days — reserve through the Go City app before arriving, not on the day.
- The All-Inclusive 4-day option doesn't appear to be offered — pricing goes 1, 2, 3, 5 days. If you're planning 4 days of sightseeing, the 5-day pass at SEK 849 is the only option with a buffer.
- The Hop-On Hop-Off Boat is seasonal and listed as 'Closed — back in July' on Go City's current listings. Don't factor it into a pre-summer pass decision.
- Don't book both Paddan tour variants on the same trip. The standard Canal Tour (Essentials-eligible, SEK 269) and the Scenic Säveån Tour (All-Inclusive only, SEK 385) cover different routes but are both Paddan products. One per visit is enough.
- The All-Inclusive runs on calendar days, not 24-hour periods. A day ends at midnight — activating mid-afternoon wastes most of a day. Start as early as the attractions open.
- Liseberg — the city's dominant attraction — is on neither pass. Many visitors discover this at checkout, not before. If Liseberg is your main reason for visiting Gothenburg, the pass calculation changes significantly.
